Perfectly Broken by Prescott Lane

Perfectly Broken - Prescott Lane

I have been mulling over how exactly I was going to review this book. It took me through so many emotions I can't even express it in words.

Perfectly Broken is one of the best contemporary romance books I have read in awhile. It is well known that I am not a fan of romance books unless they come in the form of erotica. Contemp Romance books usually are too sickly sweet, I can't take it. I like a story, a big juicy story, behind the romance. Peyton has a past that is strangling her life. She has completely withdrawn with the only human contact being her gram, her customers at the pie shop and Quinn her best friend. Quinn's brother Griffin is also a tether for her but he lives in Chicago. In walks Reed one day and totally rips the carpet out from underneath her.

I loved the build up in this story. It didn't leave you wanting to rip your hair out. There were no bimbo-ish, sappy characters, just women who were so relatable they could be your friend IRL. No falling in love in one day.  I loved how the character's popped off the page, the felt real. Perfectly Broken was heart-wrenching, fun, humorous and steamy all wrapped up in one book. It was never morose, I can't deal with books like that. I have enough of my own drama, I don't like reading about others drama, books are an escape for me. I am in awe how the author could write such heavy material but worked it into a fantastic, romantic love story. You were just rooting for all the characters. Except for Reed's Dad but you have to read the book to see what I am talking about.

I am totally in love with Prescott Lane's writing and I can't wait to see what she has next. Fantastic. A MUST READ.

Inn on the Edge

Inn on the Edge - Gail Bridges Review to come (but I frickin' loved it.)

Glistening Rebellion: 2 (Glistening Haven)

Glistening Rebellion - Jill Cooper

I wish I could give this 10 stars. There is so much action it makes your head spin.....in a good way. Jenna truly comes into her own as a kick ass warrior chick. Jake shows his true colors along with his dad, Jeff. All the characters I loved from Glistening Haven were even more fantastic. They fight new foes and a few old ones. Evolution is proving more than either side can handle and tons of bad choices were made. With all it's awesome twists and a killer cliff hanger....this book is one of my favorites I've read in awhile. In the end I wanted punch Jameson in the face. Read the book and find out why.

Disclosure: the author gave me an ARC copy of the book in exchange for my honest review. The book rocks. You can't go wrong with dragons :)

Charred Tears (Heart of Fire, #2)

Charred Tears - Lizzy Ford I only have one bad thing to say about this book. It ended. I was actually sad when it did. It had a fantastically frustrating cliffhanger ending and i can't wait until January when the next book comes out!

Charred Heart (Heart of Fire) (Volume 1)

Charred Heart (Heart of Fire) (Volume 1) - Lizzy Ford I love Dragons. I love shifters. I am in love with this series. One of Lizzy's best books yet.

Her Mad Hatter

Her Mad Hatter - Marie Hall I loved this book. LOVED. I want a Hatter of my own.

Sweet Magic Song

Sweet Magic Song - Olivia Hardin Review to follow

America's Darlings

America's Darlings - Gail Bridges Review to come.....

The Soul of the World (Legends of Amun Ra, #2)

The Soul of the World (Legends of Amun Ra, #2) - Joshua Silverman I highly recommend reading the first book in the series, read my review my blog The Crafty Cauldron. I actually enjoyed this book way more than the first. It has a whole different feel and the writing and flow of the story was fantastic. Since I am obsessed with mythology and sci-if these books are right up my alley. Leoros is back on Earth and the battle of good and evil still ensues. Choices he made in the first book still haunt him. A few new characters are introduced and the multi-POV is still there, which I love. If you are looking for a book with tons of action, Soul has it. In a vivid way, the author weaves a story that is really hard to put down.

Infernal Gates

Infernal Gates - Michael J. Webb This was totally my kind of book. Infernal Gates had all my favorite things: mythology, theology, romance, demons and magic. I am new to Michael’s writing but I am definitely keeping him on my radar now. What I loved about this book is that it combined all sorts of ideals, religions and ways of thinking. Infernal Gates takes you on a supernatural ride of present and past. It switches back and forth from past to present seamlessly and it’s extremely easy to follow. It’s definitely a cerebral read, if you don’t know much about different religions and time periods you will be ten times more knowledgeable when you are done reading. The Book of Revelation has received a lot of press lately, more and more religious people keep saying we are at the End of Days. For Ethan Freeman it is. He’s running from humanity and the supernatural. He has cult members and demons tracking him down and/or trying to frame him for murder. It’s a crazy ride and I am really glad I hopped on. One of the better books I have read in awhile. If you like books by Steven White and Dan Brown you will LOVE this book. 5 stars from me.

The Windgate (The School of Ministry #1)

The Windgate (The School of Ministry #1) - Braxton A. Cosby The School of Ministry was a wild, unique, cerebral read. It’s Christian based in its theology but I felt a more spiritual theme develop after a bit. Ziv is a fantastically strong young man who gets thrown a lot of junk in his life. It keeps on ticking and moving. In a twist of fate he meets this “league of extraordinary gentleman” called the School of Ministry who show him things that can’t ever be unseen, but also verify to him, he’s not crazy. It’s fast paced, it has vivid imagery and although the actual villain may have been a shock to some, I wasn’t surprised. This isn’t your usual vanilla religious story. It has twists and issues that far exceed expectations. My only critique? The author has a love for !’s everywhere. I seriously recommend this book!

The Reluctant Bride

The Reluctant Bride - Beverley Eikli I didn’t have high hopes for Emily in the beginning of the book. I thought she was going to be a simpering, daddy-did-me-wrong girl. She had fallen for the bad boy, was disdained by her father and un-protected by her mother because she was just as much a victim as Emily. Tragedy upon tragedy strikes and Emily loses everything. In walks Angus. He saves her, loves her and tries his best to protect her. This book has a slow boil. It starts as a romance story and ends in a fantastic mystery/action storyline. I was blown away at how much I liked this book. I really thought I wouldn’t. The author has a way of snaring you before you even realize. This is a great read. Definitely for the historical romance buff like myself.

Hunger Moon (Victoria Storm, #2)

Hunger Moon (Victoria Storm, #2) - Melissa Snark I thought when I started reading this that I was just going to read a typical “werewolf” book. I was pleasantly surprised at the fantastic writing and plot of this book. This book is more like a fabulous mystery/action adventure that just happened to be about werewolves. The characters jump off the page and the chemistry between them is fantastic. Not so much a romantic chemistry but one like a long time friend or sibling. I loved the give and take. There is all sorts of fascinating ties to Nordic traditions and mythology. If you are looking for a different type of paranormal book I highly recommend this one! I didn’t read the first book, but I wasn’t lost at all.

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children - Ransom Riggs Loved it. I can see why some didn't like it but I was enthralled with the story. What I thought was a horror story ended up being more of a coming of age story.
Whiskey Rebellion - Liliana Hart Fantastically fun book about a fellow clumsy girl after my own heart. Already one-clicked the next book!
Keeper of Reign - Emma Right Keeper of Reign is a vivid YA story full of larger than life characters, dramatic scenes and curses. I felt it was a great first book. It moves very quickly, you get sucked in and fall in love with Jules very quickly. He’s a great YA character. Full of spunk and driven to find his father he travels into enemy territory to right a wrong that cursed his people eons ago. So many secrets this 16 year old faces. Not to mention he’s a teeny elfie.

If you are a fantasy fanatic you will love this book. It has the makings that a good fantasy series should have and I can’t wait to see where Emma takes us with this story.
